Letter

This is an exchange of messages between me and a writer-brother; what came out of the exchanges was something close to poetic (I think!). One version is not a translation of the other. But each paragraph is connected to the previous by some key words/ ideas.

The English is my version and Bengali, his.

Hope you enjoy the read.

As the night unfolds its wings,
noises get louder.
Noises....
Inside....
And out!

ar jawto raat khole tar rup
keu dyakhar nei bole rag kore
jaabaar aage ga thele deke diye jaay
uthe dekhi bohujug baade shiyorpaashe
tomaar raater chithi

A letter with barely any letter ....
Acknowledging the unspeakable,
unwritable letters
Of the soon-to-leave night!

jey tomar chithi
vorer sharat shiuli
hoye jhawre
hoye jhawre
choitrer ghumheenotaay
aytodin baade sahosa
tomar chithi pore abaak
notun notun belful

Flowers write what letters can't.
Fragrance overpowers language.
Withering buds bid humble adieu
To Spring's wilderness
Lonesome iotas of dews await
The birth of yet another Summer.
