A new addition to the history of blasts!

"History is nothing but the activity of men in pursuit of their ends."
-Karl Marx

Around 60-70 years back, an Argentine writer, named J.L. Borges, wrote about BENARES, without ever visiting the holy( now blood-stained) place.

Today morning while I was surfing through the news of the pernicious blast at Dashashwamedh, couple of links related to the blast popped up. But then I was bemused to see that a scroll bar on the right hand side of the page gave links to 15 pages(!), each containing news of about 20 blasts that took place this year around the globe.

It's the 63rd year of 'independence', as per historical records, but the innate disdain in our souls continues to goad us into destruction. We are still prey to the divide and rule. Perhaps it's rightly said that "the sun never sets on the British empire" because its span across the globe ensured that the sun was always shining on at least one of its numerous territories. And that certainly includes our hearts and minds, if not geographical territories!

"History does nothing; it does not possess immense riches, it does not fight battles. It is men, real, living, who do all this." -Karl Marx

Then why are we still so eager to repeat that history at the cost of our lives?

Thanks, Debarati, for this post. If you asked me to summarize my experience of the last twenty years or so, I would say that it's a story of steady decline in almost all spheres of life. More and more people are turning insane ... the worst of the lot are the people who have the power, the people who can change things for the better.

Can we, the ordinary people, do anything? I do not know. Perhaps we can keep ourselves informed ... and try our best to retain our sanity.

I agree with you Santanuda, we have almost reached the trench and we still don't put an end to our shamelessness.
'Drops of water make the ocean'-has been a very popular saying. Staying in sync with it, I would like to say that let's do our bit. Let's try to maintain our sanity and try to keep peace around, in our surroundings and among our loved ones to be most specific.
Let's hope someday, one day, we WILL attain peace over our innate vengeance and scorn.
Let's keep our fingers crossed!

I may sound pessimistic but it does not seem to me that the politics of power-game would end any time too soon.It had been brewing for ages and therefore it would take time to die down. The only way perhaps the hatred would cease is when the religious fanatics become wise and mature enough to put an end to their sadistic attitude of manipulating and instigating the ignorant and gullible masses. The IM has rightly pointed out that the Indian 'democracy' is actually a 'demonocracy'!

Perhaps you do have a point Rashmi. But I'm more on the optimistic side. I don't know how long it's going to take to free ourselves from the qualms of our own sadistic attitude. All I am trying to say is that over time we keep changing our roles- from oppressor to oppressed and vice versa. It's WE at the end of the day who not only suffer but make others suffer too. That's what makes me sad.
Instead of pointing fingers at others, let's just do our own bit by dusting the ground on where we stand, because it's certainly not possible to sweep the whole world!

Yes we definitely have a role to play and make an effort to improve the situation
